WE CELEBRATE OUR PAST AND LOOK FOWARD TO THE FUTURE
The Sons of Thunder Coalition was founded in 1995 by Michael Copeland after a spiritual rebirth following the death of his son.
Working along with Rev. Larry D. Couch, Copeland held a 12 team, men's basketball tournament called Sons of Thunder Basketball Jam. This event was a major success, leading to the creation of the Sons of Thunder Basketball League in June of 1996.
After three years of a men and youth league, the limited staffing and growing league led to the board of directors changing their focus to youth basketball and youth development services like college tours, homework club, career exploration, etc.
